Youth Jobs Strategy

The Business Advisory Centre of Durham (BACD), the Durham Workforce Authority (DWA) and the Literacy Network of Durham (LiNDR) recently teamed up to host “Youth Jobs Strategy – Idea Forum”.

With Durham Region’s youth unemployment rates among the highest in Canada, the forum was held to:

  • Provide an overview of the national and provincial situation
  • Present a comprehensive overview of Durham Region’s youth population
  • Discuss results from the 2013 Durham Workforce Authority Youth Survey
  • Brainstorm ideas and collaboration opportunities to move forward

logosTeresa Shaver, Executive Director of the BACD stated: “For many of us it was an opportunity to meet face to face and to become more aware of what we each offer to the community and to each other. Together we also discussed the opportunities in the youth section and how we could assist in better serving the youth sector.”

The Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre is a willing and active participant in such forums and continually looks for opportunities to work collaboratively with other community stakeholders to address the issue of youth unemployment and underemployment.
