Minimum Wage Increase in Ontario

Minimum wage increases in Ontario have been frozen since 2010. Effective June 1st, 2014, the General Minimum Wage is set to increase from $10.25/hour to $11/hour.

Kathleen WynneOntario Premier, Kathleen Wynne, reports on the increase in the following statement:

“Increasing the minimum wage will help improve the standard of living for hardworking people across the province, while ensuring that businesses have the predictability necessary to plan for the future.”

While some argue that the minimum wage is not high enough, others feel that it is a step in the right direction.

Employers were given 4 months’ notice to adjust to the new Minimum Wage increase.
