Newly Arrived Refugees

In December, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory welcomed a small group of 214 Syrian refugees at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The event has drawn international attention to Canada.

The editors of the New York Times stated that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “spoke unmistakably to a broader audience” when he personally greeted refugees…” – source

A photo of a crowd welcoming Syrian refugees to Canada is making the rounds on social media. Hassan McMasri posted the picture on his Facebook page with the following caption: “Dear world, this is Canada…” Quintiessential diversity.

According to federal statistics, 882 Syrian refugees have arrived in Canada since Nov. 4. “An additional 1,545 have been issued permanent resident visas but haven’t yet arrived in Canada.”
