Effects of Minimum Wage Hike

According to a recent Huffington Post article, Ontario’s Minimum wage hike didn’t kill jobs in Ontario.

minimum wageWhile some experts argue that minimum wage hikes do not negatively impact strong economies, others are not in agreement. When the minimum wage in Ontario was raised to $14/hr many experts believed it would harm job creation in the province.

More than 6 months have passed and the wage hike has not derailed Ontario’s economy.

In fact, the province added approximately 60,000 jobs in July and the unemployment rate fell to 5.4% – the lowest rate in 18 years.
