The provincial government wants to save a billion dollars with changes to OHIP’s healthcare coverage in Ontario.
A working group of doctors from the Ontario Medical Association along with government officials are reviewing the latest and best practices to determine which medical tests ordered by doctors are unnecessary, overused or inappropriate.
An examination of OHIP services is part of the terms of a new contract between the province and doctors to find savings.
The group has a deadline of May 1st to agree to reductions worth $100 million and September 1st to save an additional $360 million.
